Noted for his “beautiful, well-produced, rich sound…” Chancelor Barbaree, baritone, calls Amarillo, TX home. Chancelor’s 2024-2025 season saw him as Lovec and Hanjy in Gulfshore Opera’s production of Rusalka,  Manfred Lewin in Jake Heggie’s For a Look or a Touch with Bold City Opera and Dottore Grenvil in La Traviata with Vero Beach Opera. Chancelor recently sang the role of Melchior in a concert version of Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors in Alabama and engaged in holiday performances with Gulfshore Opera. In the summer of 2024, Chancelor joined Opera NEO in their production of Così fan tutte as Don Alfonso where he was praised for his “suave vocal technique” (San Diego Story), and he was a Gerdine Young Artist with the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in the summer of 2023. In past seasons, Chancelor has sung Marco in Gianni Schicchi and Marullo in Rigoletto both with Amarillo Opera. In competition, Chancelor was a 2025 finalist in Opera Birmingham competition. He was awarded First Prize in the MIOpera competition’s university division in 2023, an encouragement award for the Opera Index competition in 2023, and the Blitzstein award for the Orpheus competitionin 2022. He was an alternate finalist in the 2022 Carolyn Bailey & Dominick Argento competition in 2022.
