Bass-Baritone David Kahng, from Cheonan, South Korea, will perform the role of Alidoro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola with Opera North.
He was a Music Fellow at the Music Academy of the West this past summer, where he performed as the Commendatore and covered Leporello in Don Giovanni, as well as singing Chucho in William Bolcom’s Lucrezia. A former Studio Artist with Wolf Trap Opera, Kahng’s notable performances include his debut as Barone Douphol in La Traviata at the Filene Center, and as Shiro Azuma in The Purple Mountain at Houston Grand Opera. His repertoire also includes Melliso in Alcina, Howard in Missy Mazzoli’s The Listeners, Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore at Seoul’s Geumcheon-gu Art Hall, Leporello in Don Giovanni, and Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte. He has also covered Elder Ott in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah and the title role of Don Giovanni at the Barns with Wolf Trap Opera.
Kahng received 1st Place and the Todd Duncan Legacy Award in the 2026 National Opera Association Artist Division, Finalist in the Luciano Pavarotti International Competition Naples Opera, and an Encouragement Award from The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in the Georgia District.
He is currently pursuing a Professional Diploma at the Mannes School of Music, studying with William Burden and Joshua Greene, and holds a Master’s degree from Mannes and a Bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University.
