Baritone Jared Kellman-Medina is an emerging artist with commanding and captivating performances. He recently finished the 75th Anniversary season with Opera in the Ozarks in the roles of Escamillo in Carmen and Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow. Jared has been a standout performer in the San Antonio area. He has performed at the San Antonio Zoo during DreamWeek San Antonio and as a guest artist for the San Antonio Choral Society. Known for “bringing incredible energy” to his performances, Mr. Kellman-Medina has portrayed the title role in Don Giovanni, Count Carl Magnus-Malcom in A Little Night Music, and Jesus in Godspell with the UTSA Lyric Theatre. Studying under Professor Crystal Jarrell Johnson, Jared has earned national recognition, including being a National Finalist, Semifinalist, and Spirituals Award winner at the George Shirley Vocal Competition in 2023 and 2024, and a National Semifinalist in the NATS Hall Johnson Spirituals Competition. Beyond his performances, Jared is dedicated to service and academic excellence. He is a UTSA Honors College student, 1st place winner in the 2023 COLFA Research Conference in Music Lecture-Performance, President of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia’s Nu Eta Chapter, and Vice President of the American Choral Directors Association. Passionate about creating change, Jared actively serves the San Antonio community, breaking barriers for underrepresented and underprivileged communities. Jared will be headed to the Boston Conservatory of Music at Berklee for a Master’s in Opera Performance. Mr. Kellman-Medina aims to sing opera internationally, making opera more accessible to underrepresented and underprivileged communities and breaking the stereotype of the black opera singer. He also plans to be a platform for underrepresented composers and an ambassador for Black and African American Art Song and the Negro Spiritual.
