Passionate about creating unique and provocative productions that are accessible to audiences of all kinds, Lauren Lenz works as a stage director and stage manager based out of Detroit, MI. Her background has led to an appreciation for contemporary opera and modern reconstructions of classic works. As a trained intimacy choreographer, Lenz approaches directing as a collaborative, consent-based practice.

Select previous work includes Bay View Music Festival (Stage Director, Fiddler on the Roof), Carnegie Mellon University (Stage Director, Opera Excerpts), University of Michigan (Consulting Stage Director, The Pigeon Keeper; Intimacy Director, Don Giovanni), Opera NexGen (Director, Cosí fan tutte), and Opera Orlando (Outreach Stage Director, The Secret River). Lenz has done assistant directing work for Opera Grand Rapids, University of Tennessee, and Opéra Louisiane, among others. She has also done stage management work with companies including Opera Omaha, Opera Carolina, and Toledo Opera, among others. Lenz worked with Pittsburgh Festival Opera as Young Artist Director in 2020 and 2021 and has trained with Theatrical Intimacy Education. Upcoming projects include Marble City Opera (Assistant Director, Pagliccai) and Bay View Music Festival (Stage Director, Ragtime).
