Georgia State University Opera Theater presents Gian Carlo Menotti's The Consul, a gripping music drama set in a land under totalitarian rule. As the Sorel family desperately seeks to escape the country, they are met with relentless bureaucracy and indifference at the consulate, leading to devastating consequences.
Georgia State University Opera Theater presents “Die Fledermaus,” a.k.a. “The Flittermouse Operetta” presenting a comedic revenge by Johann Strauss II unveiled in three acts. An elaborate reprisal scheme reveals a lighthearted story of forgiveness and love propelled by flirtation, little lies and too much wine, all named for the victim of a years-earlier prank involving a Viennese ball guest dressed in a bat costume. In recent years, “Die Fledermaus” ranked in the top 15 operas among hundreds of titles annually performed worldwide. The popular Strauss work has been presented continuously in Vienna since its 1874 premiere, with this Atlanta performance accompanied by the GSU Symphony Orchestra. Experience an evening filled with lively waltzes, sparkling arias, and a hilarious storyline of mistaken identities and playful pranks. Follow the misadventures of Gabriel von Eisenstein as he is tricked into attending a lavish masquerade ball hosted by the eccentric Prince Orlofsky, all while his wife Rosalinde and their maid Adele join the festivities in disguise.
Soprano Megan Littlepage is an emerging operatic and concert artist whose performances are noted for her vibrant tone and nuanced phrasing. Equally at home in early music, standard operatic repertoire, and contemporary works, she brings technical precision and emotional depth to every role.
A native of Minnesota, Littlepage grew up immersed in the region’s rich choral and classical music traditions. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she appeared in partial roles including Pamina and the Second Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (2017, 2018) and as Hänsel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel (2019). That same year, she performed Nero (partial) in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, an experience that deepened her interest in historically informed performance and the rhetorical elegance of early Baroque opera.
Currently pursuing a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Georgia State University, Littlepage has expanded her repertoire with roles such as Greta Fiorentino (partial) in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, Ida in Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, and Anna Gomez in Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Consul.
In addition to her operatic work, Littlepage is a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Chamber Chorus, performing under distinguished conductors in major symphonic and choral-orchestral works. Career highlights include appearing at the Fox Theatre in September 2024 for President Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday celebration and participating in the 2023 memorial service for former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. These performances underscored her belief in the power of collective music-making to create moments of cultural and historical significance.
Looking ahead, Littlepage is committed to a career that integrates performance, scholarship, and teaching. She has a particular interest in programming recitals that place early music alongside modern works, revealing the thematic and emotional continuities between them. She is also passionate about mentoring emerging singers, offering guidance informed by her own journey from student to professional.
From her Minnesota beginnings to her present work in Atlanta’s operatic and symphonic communities, Megan Littlepage continues to develop a career grounded in vocal versatility and artistic integrity.
