South Korea-born bass baritone Minki Hong is currently an Artist Diploma student at The Juilliard School, studying under the tutelage of Darrell Babidge. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Seoul National University, conferred in 2022, and was a recipient of the prestigious Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation scholarship in recognition of his artistic promise.
Mr. Hong has won prizes in both the Song and Aria divisions of the Gerda Lissner Competition. In 2024, he was named a winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Florida District, and was awarded Third Prize in the South-East Region.
At Juilliard, he made his operatic debut as Marco and served as the cover for the title role in Gianni Schicchi. He subsequently performed the role of Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte. In 2024, he made his European debut as Ford in Falstaff at the Verbier Festival, participating in the Atelier Lyrique program.
Most recently, in the summer of 2025, Mr. Hong participated in a program led by esteemed Wagnerian bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, culminating in a performance at the Bayreuther Festspiele.
This season, he is in the ‘El Canto de las Manos’ project, a documentary film with Gustavo Dudamel singing Rocco in the Fidelio Act 1 Quartet in the New York Philharmonic. He is also performing the roles of Falstaff in The Juilliard School and Bonze from the opera Madame Butterfly in Opera Grand Rapids.
