Biography

Murray Sampson

Murray Sampson grew up surrounded by music, with several professional musicians in the family and a house full of instruments. He first began playing the piano at the age of three. He has studied piano, trombone, and composition under various performers and composers, most recently pianist Matthew Rollings, trombonist Stan Jeffs, and composer Todd Kovell.

Murray spent several years as the primary trombonist for The Orchestra of Flight in Seattle. The orchestra performs music around the South Puget Sound for underserved communities and does an annual Christmas concert at The Museum of Flight in Seattle, WA. For part of that time he also served on the board of directors for the orchestra's nonprofit, helping with governance and planning.

Murray holds a BFA in Multimedia from the University of Oregon. Coursework included electronic music making and video production, skills he continues to use in his personal projects. You can view some of this at his website https://murraycs.art.

When not making music or art, Murray enjoys spending time with his family enjoying the outdoors and attending cultural events. In the winter, he can frequently be found hitting the snowy slopes of the Cascades on his snowboard.
