Frederic has been an apprentice to a band of pirates, led by the formidable Pirate King, since he was a child. At 21 he is ready to leave his life of piracy behind and embark on a courtship with his new love Mabel. The problem? Frederic was born in Leap Year on February 29th and is apprenticed to the pirates till his 21st birthday not his 21st year. Will Frederic fulfill his duty to the pirates and help them defeat their new nemesis, the Major General and father of his love Mabel? Or abandon his duty for love? Join Cimarron this June to find out!
The Pirates of Penzance was Gilbert & Sullivan’s fifth collaboration and their only work to premiere in the United States. The Pirates of Penzance premiered in New York City at the Fifth Avenue Theatre on December 31, 1879. Since its premiere it has been performed across the globe, made into a film and returned to Broadway many times.
The Summer Operetta features performances by emerging artists as well as community members. Performers from a wide range of backgrounds come together to present a Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta and provide entertainment for the Norman and wider Oklahoma Community.
Cimarron Opera’s Summer Operetta is made possible with support from Allied Arts, Kirkpatrick Foundation, Norman Arts Council First Presbyterian Church and St. John’s Episcopal Church. This project was made possible by Oklahoma Arts Sector ARPA Grants, an investment made by leaders of the State of Oklahoma, led by the Oklahoma Arts Council in partnership with Allied Arts OKC and Arts Alliance Tulsa.

Natasha Naik
Emerging Indian-American mezzo-soprano Natasha Naik is a multifaceted and dynamic performer noted for the vocal warmth heard throughout her range. A passionate and committed storyteller, notable roles include Inez/featured dancer in The Gondoliers (Cimarron Opera) Mad Margaret in Ruddigore (Cimarron Opera Company), Fenena in Nabucco (Opera Ithaca), Scribe/Maria Maddelena in Galileo Galilei (Cincinnati Conservatory MainStage), Dorabella in Così fan tutte (University of Oklahoma), Mercédès in Carmen (Cincinnati Conservatory French Opera Gala), Mezzo-soprano/Detective 3 in Murder at the Opera (Cimarron Opera Company) and Queen of the Fairies in Iolanthe (Cimarron Opera Company). Outside of opera Natasha has performed in Educational Outreach Tours, Musical Theatre and Shakespeare. Naik holds a Master of Music from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and a Bachelor of Music (summa cum laude) from the University of Oklahoma. When not performing, Natasha enjoys working behind the scenes as an adminastrator, stage director, educational program creator, stage manager, and props designer. She is currently the Programs Manager at Cincinnati Song Initiative. From 2021-2025 Natasha was the Artistic Director/Interim Executive Director for Cimarron Opera, the company where she first developed her love of opera.
