Tenor Alexander Scheuermann has been called “a performer’s performer” and is praised for his sweet tone and nuanced stagecraft. An affinity for wide-ranging repertoire has made him a sought-after performer across the United States and in Europe, and he has equal passion for new works as for those of earlier epochs. Recent seasons have seen Alexander at the Central City, Saratoga, Kentucky, and Pensacola Opera, as well as Opera in the Heights, HGOco, Ars Lyrica Houston, and the Moore’s Opera House in roles such as Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette, Laurie in Little Women, and Younger Thompson in Glory Denied. Other roles include Arcadio in Florencia en el Amazonas, Siegfried in Das Barbecü, Le Jeu in Les Plaisir de Versailles, and The Barber in Man of La Mancha. On the concert stage, Alexander has performed with ensembles including Bachfest Leipzig, the Festival Musicale Itinerante, the Houston Camerata, the Victoria Bach Festival, the Kingwood Chorale, and the Pensacola Chorale in Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Petite Messe Solenelle and Il barbiere di Siviglia, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Bach’s Magnificat in D and Stradella’s San Giovanni Battista. 2021-22 performances include Felix in Arizona Opera’s workshop of Frankenstein, Fenton in Falstaff with Raylynmor Opera, Polinesso in the world premiere of Being Ariodante with Ensemble Échappé (NYC), and Remendado in Carmen with Salt Marsh Opera. He covered the role of Timothy in Fellow Travelers at Des Moines Metro Opera in summer 2021. Alex makes his Carnegie Hall debut in 2022 in Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, and he joins York Symphony Orchestra as the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Choral Fantasy. He makes two role and company debuts in 2022: as Marco in The Gondoliers with Winter Opera St. Louis, and Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance with Opera Tampa. A native of Florida, Alexander holds a bachelor’s degree in voice from Florida State University and a master's degree in voice from the University of Houston.
