Born in Moscow to a family of musicians, tenor Arseny Yakovlev studied voice at the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory and continued his vocal studies at the Academy of Choral Arts under Prof. Dmitry Vdovin. He was then invited to join the Young Artists Program at the Bolshoi Opera in Moscow, where he continued his studies with Maestro Vdovin. In 2012, at the age of 19, Yakovlev made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier. He was also heard in a number of other supporting roles in operas including La traviata, Carmen, Le Nozze di Figaro, The Maid of Orleans and Iolanta. While at the Bolshoi, Yakovlev took part in many concerts on the Bolshoi Stage, as well as in other concert halls.
In June of 2016, Yakovlev sang his first performance of Lensky in Eugene Onegin in Belgrade, and in December of the same year, he made his debut with the Latvian National Opera in Riga in the same role. He made his Spanish opera debut in Mallorca in the spring of 2017 as Macduff in Macbeth, and in June of the same year, he appeared in a gala at the Dutch National Opera. The tenor also made his German operatic debut in the fall of 2017 as Lensky at Oper Frankfurt. In September of 2018, Yakovlev won Third Prize at Placido Domingo’s Operalia Competition, after which joined the Metropolitan Opera’s Young Artist Program.
