Benjamin Chen, baritone, is in his last semester of undergraduate studies at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance. Pursuing his dual Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance and Music Education, Ben is under the instruction of Lawrence Indik. Most recently, Ben performed with the Janiec Opera Company of the Brevard Music Center, Temple Opera Theater, and made his professional debut with Anchorage Opera.

Biography

Benjamin Chen

Benjamin Chen, baritone, is in his last semester of undergraduate studies at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance. Pursuing his dual Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance and Music Education, Ben is under the instruction of Lawrence Indik. 
 

Most recently at the Brevard Music Center, Ben performed the role of Second Priest and covered Papageno in Dean Anthony’s circus-themed The Magic Flute. Ben also covered the baritone solo in Vaughan William’s A Sea Symphony, performed by Andrew Garland. Last season with Temple University, he appeared as the Surindendant des plaisirs in Massenet’s Cendrillon and the title role of Don Giovanni. This January, Ben made his professional debut as Prince Yamadori in Anchorage Opera’s Madama Butterfly. Additional past credits include King Melchior in Amahl & the Night Visitors, Dandini in La Cenerentola, winning 1st place at the 2024 National Student Auditions (NATS) Eastern Region competition, and earning 2nd place in Temple University’s 2024 Vocal Arts Undergraduate Voice Competition. Upon his return to Philadelphia, Ben will student teach with The School District of Philadelphia and graduate in the winter.
