This season, operatic performances include Tirsi in Jacopo Peri’s Euridice with Haymarket Opera and The Newberry Consort, Narraboth in Richard Strauss’s Salome with Union Avenue Opera, Ralph Rackstraw in Gilbert & Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore with Winter Opera Saint Louis, and the title role in the world premiere of The Higgler by Margi Griebling-Haigh.
In concert, Skoog appears with the Bozeman Symphony (Mozart Requiem), Elmhurst Symphony (Bach St. Matthew Passion), Toledo Symphony (Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Handel Messiah), Bach Cantata Vespers Chicago (Bach Mass in B minor), Niles Metropolitan Chorus (Mozart Coronation Mass) and the West Shore Chorale (Mozart Mass in C minor).
Recent operatic highlights include Ferrando in Così fan tutte with Chicago’s Salt Creek Chamber Orchestra, Tempo in Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno and Lurcanio in Ariodantewith Opera Neo in San Diego, Mozart in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Mozart and Salieri with The Cleveland Opera, and Jake in Matthew Aucoin’s Second Nature with Opera Fayetteville. Skoog has also recently sung roles with Central City Opera, Cleveland Opera Theater, Dayton Opera, Nashville Opera, Fayetteville, Opera Neo, Toledo Opera, and Utah Festival Opera.
A champion of new music and living composers, Skoog was the tenor soloist for the world premiere of Margaret Brouwer's environmental oratorio Voice of the Lake. Seen and Heard International praised his "brilliant" singing and called him “one of the highlights.” His performance of “The Lake” was included on a 2022 album of Brouwer's compositions on the Naxoslabel.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Brian Skoog received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Alabama and his Master of Music and Professional Studies from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Artist residencies include the Aspen Opera Theater Center, Central City Opera, Dayton Opera, Nashville Opera, Pensacola Opera, and Toledo Opera.
