Biography

Christiana Aloneftis

Christiana Aloneftis is a Greek-Cypriot Australian soprano and film actress, recognised for her "exceptionally warm, expressive soprano voice" and "poise and graceful, nuanced phrasing" (Joyce DiDonato). A child of the Cypriot diaspora, born in Melbourne and based in Munich, she trained at the Bavarian State Opera and at the prestigious École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris on full scholarship. Described as a “genuine discovery” with a “captivating stage presence” and “richly-coloured voice” (Wiesbadener Tagblatt), she has performed a diverse range of roles with her current focus being on the more expansive, full-lyric soprano repertoire.

A rising star in both opera and film, Christiana has been described by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute as possessing a “gorgeous, resonant soprano voice” with “strong musical and dramatic commitment.” She made her Hollywood film debut in the highly anticipated biopic Maria (2024), in which she shared the role of the legendary Maria Callas with Angelina Jolie. Christiana portrays the young Callas at her international debut at Teatro La Fenice di Venice, capturing the early, transformative years of the iconic opera singer. Directed by Pablo Larraín and written by Stephen Knight, the film explores the final days of Callas' life. Christiana’s scenes were shot at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, and the film premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

Christiana Aloneftis has earned widespread recognition for her multifarious contributions to the arts, most recently winning the Brian Boak Outstanding Performer Award (2024), a prominent Australian career grant recognising emerging talent with international potential, and is a Theodor Rogler Foundation Awardee (2024). She was honoured to win the CHASS Prize for Distinctive Work in 2021, awarded by the Council for Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences Australia for her "excellent and diverse contributions to the arts, as a performer and coach." and has also received accolades from the GVL (Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechten), the Deutscher Musikrat (2022 & 2023), and the Bavarian State Scholarship Programme for Young Artists.

In addition to her musical studies, she is a graduate of the University of Melbourne and Monash University with a BMus (Vocal Performance), a DipLang in Advanced Italian and a Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies. She is fluent in five languages and manages a global coaching practice centred around a set of foundational disciplines that empower emerging talent and established professionals to navigate career and transformation trajectories in the contemporary arts world with confidence and resolve.

Christiana Aloneftis will, shortly, commence filming in London, as the female lead, in a short psycho-thriller film (2025) directed by Grierson British Documentary & Multi Award Winning film Director, Alfred George Bailey. Christiana looks forward to embodying many complex female characters in film & TV that allow her to explore her full emotional spectrum, magnetic connection and nuance of storytelling.

Christiana Aloneftis recently participated in the Mascagni Academy 2025 in Livorno, Italy and will represent Australia as a semi-finalist in the prestigious X Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus. The young talent’s growing presence in both opera and film position her as a powerful international talent with a unique artistic profile, bridging the worlds of high art across both music and cinema.
