Biography

Cindy Dajeong Song

Mezzo-soprano Dajeong Song, originally from Goyang, South Korea, is a doctoral candidate in Voice at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studies under the tutelage of Jane Dutton. She previously served as a Graduate Assistant at Jacobs. Song earned both her M.M. and Professional Studies Diploma in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Konkuk University in Seoul.

She has appeared in numerous operatic roles across the United States and abroad. At Opera in the Ozarks, she performed Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) and Mama McCourt/Effie (The Ballad of Baby Doe). At the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, her roles included Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti), Unulfo (Rodelinda), and La Zelatrice (Suor Angelica). At IU Opera Theater, she debuted as Aunt Lou (Highway 1, U.S.A.) and later appeared as Lazuli (L’étoile) and Ramiro (La finta giardiniera). Internationally, she made her South American debut with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia.

Song has participated in masterclasses with renowned artists Frederica von Stade, Barbara Honn, and Martin Katz. Before beginning her doctoral studies, she worked as a high school music teacher and choir conductor in South Korea. Most recently, she spent two summers as an Apprentice Artist with Central City Opera, where she made her American professional debut as Kate in The Pirates of Penzance.

Currently, Song serves as an Adjunct Voice Instructor at Taylor University.
