Emily O'Connor, who hails from the small town of Slate Hill in New York, is an emerging lyric coloratura soprano whose voice can handle the demands of a modern day singer. Equally at home in operatic, concert, musical theater, and contemporary works, Emily's engagements have given her a unique breadth of knowledge and capabilities. Emily received her undergraduate degree at Ithaca College (summa cum laude) as a Vocal Performance major with a minor in German Language and Jazz Vocal Performance.
At Ithaca College, she had the joy of performing in numerous scenes programs with the Opera Workshop as well as concerts with the Ithaca College Vocal Jazz Ensemble. She also had the privilege of performing the titular role in Dido and Aeneas by Purcell with Ithaca College Opera.
After her undergraduate studies, Emily moved east to earn her Masters in Opera Performance at Boston Conservatory. There, she studied with Angela Gooch and performed many roles including Mrs. Wordsworth in Albert Herring, Mrs. Gleaton from Susannah, and Susanna from Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro.
As a young artist, Emily has had extensive training at some of the nation's top programs. She performed with Prague Summer Nights and the Castleton Festival to sing Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro in Old Town Alexandria in 2022. Also in 2022, Emily became a Young Artist at Brevard Music Center (Janiec Opera Company) where she sang the roles of Frasquita in Carmen, Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia, and performed in a Cole Porter revue. She returned in 2023 to sing the role of Cinderella in Into the Woods, Flora in Turn of the Screw, and a soloist in a Gershwin cabaret. Emily had the privilege to return to her home state of New York in 2024 to become an Emerging Artist with the Seagle Festival. There, she sang Fiona McClaren in Brigadoon and Zerlina in Don Giovanni. Emily was also grateful to be a Fall Outreach Artist for the Seagle festival in 2024 where she premiered a new work by Richard Wargo: At That Hour. The chamber opera was based on James Joyce's works and was in collaboration with the Sembrich Opera Museum and the American Center for New Works Development in upstate New York. Emily originated the role of Emily Sinico to two sold out performances.
Emily has a passion for opera, jazz, musical theater, and contemporary works, and believes that art can transcend barriers to educate and connect all peoples. Outside of music, Emily enjoys hand sewing, machine sewing, reading, running, weight lifting, exploring new restaurants in New York City, and is a fiend for a good chai latte.
