John Mburu is a Kenyan-American Bass from Warwick, Rhode Island. Mburu has performed a variety of genres around the U.S. including opera, oratorio, and concert works. Hailed for his “authoritative bass”, John Mburu, is quickly making a name for himself as a vocally thrilling and versatile performer. Mburu was most recently engaged with the Merola Opera Program as a Young Artist. While at Merola he was a participant in their American Song Recital, sang Coryphée 2 in Rossini’s Le Comte Ory, and participated in the Schwabacher Summer Concert . In the Fall of 2025, John will return to Minnesota Opera’s Resident Artist Program where he will sing Don Alfonso in Cosi Fan Tutte. Mburu holds a Master of Music degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where he studied under Kenneth Shaw.
