Laura Miah is a soprano native to the island of Puerto Rico, currently pursuing a second Master’s degree in Opera at the Yale School of Music. During her time at Yale, she has performed roles such as Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Amy in Joel Thompson’s The Snowy Day, Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Birgitta in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, and Fanny in Rossini’s La Cambiale di Matrimonio.
Earlier in her training, she sang the role of Monica in Menotti’s The Medium while at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. Her concert work in Puerto Rico includes performances as a soloist in John Rutter’s Magnificat, Mozart’s Requiem, and Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and the Puerto Rico Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Miah has received several honors from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, including Encouragement Awards from both the Gulf Coast Region and the Connecticut District, as well as the Audience Choice Award from the Puerto Rico District. She earned second place in the 2022 Florida Grand Opera–Young Patronesses of the Opera National Voice Competition (Junior Division) and was a finalist in 2024.
She has been a fellow at programs such as Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Vocal Academy and the Ravinia Festival’s Steans Music Institute. She was also featured in Pro Arte Musical’s concert series Nuevos Virtuosos in Puerto Rico.
In the summer of 2025, Miah joined the Aspen Music Festival and School as a Fleming Artist, where she made her role debut as Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte.
In 2026, she will perform the roles of Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème and the Governess in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw with Yale Opera.
