Biography

Lauren Funkhouser

Lauren Funkhouser is a 22 year old soprano living in Charleston, South Carolina. She is currently completing her bachelor's degree in vocal performance at the College of Charleston with her teacher, Dr. Saundra Deathos-Meers. While attending the College of Charleston, Lauren has performed the roles of Rosalina in Il Re, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and Die Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte. She has also organized several concerts with the intention of fundraising for the department and has raised over 1500 dollars. In the fall of 2023, Lauren covered Adina in L’elisir d’amore with Charleston Opera Theater. Outside of Charleston, Lauren has attended prestigious programs such as Si parla si canta (2024), Music Academy of the West (2022), Berlin Opera Academy (2022), Russian Opera Workshop (2021), Washington National Opera Summer Opera Institute (2020), and Interlochen Arts Camp (2019). While in Berlin, Lauren sang the role of Papagena in Die Zauberflöte while covering "Die Königin der Nacht". Lauren is proficient in both French and German with a beginning level of Italian.
