Biography

Margot Roa

Through various characters with contrasting directors, I have deepened my appreciation for the responsibility of expanding myself. Playing Ophelia in Hamlet, directed by Maria Machado—a well-known French actress and stage director—I felt the immense power of her ability to own the stage at 5 feet standing with few words, none in English. She taught me how to hold space in captivation. In Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, in which I played the Title Role, I was able to showcase my abilities in dance, singing, and expansion. Performing at the Theatron, a large outdoor marble stage modeled after ancient Greek theatres, I learned the value of dedicating each emotion to finding life beyond myself.

In a Sci Fi TV pilot, ‘The Ripple,’ I got the role of Lumin, an aquatic “dreamer from the deep.” Diving headfirst into curiosity, this ambiguous person developed into something I could never have imagined. A role that took me beyond myself—in the definition of human, and the reality of my ability.

In the feature-length film ’Salome: A Love Story', I played The Page to Herodios, the prophetic girl who sees death before anyone else. Forced in and out of an altered state for the role, I discovered that what I love about acting isn’t how it’s deceitful, but how it’s honest. The process between what I want to say and what needs to be said is the magic in empathy.

I competed and won Poetry Out Loud, a national program offered at my high school. I was honored to go on to the state-wide competition in 2020.

My beginning was playing Thumbelina at age 4, where I went on to play various roles every summer with Morning Star Shakespeare Company. Some include Jaques in As You Like It, Kate in The Taming of the Shrew, Viola in Twelfth Night, Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. I studied the Vaganova method in classical ballet under a teacher who had been a principal dancer in Russia. Beginning at age 5, I continued through high school and College in advanced classes. I have studied Contemporary, Modern, and Jazz extensively over the course of those years as well.
