McKayla Mitchell is an undergraduate music major at Ithaca College. She is finishing her second year studying voice and additionally pursuing an outside field in speech pathology. She has over a decade of voice and theater training, and has gained experience through performance in choral ensembles, theater productions, and instrumental concerts. At Ithaca College, she is fully immersed in the music world and performs in voice ensembles both inside and outside of the music school. With addition of solo repertoire and classes, she is also a member of the IC Treble Chorale and the co-music director of the acapella group IC ToneCold. She was also involved in the college’s opera The Pirates of Penzance, which has ignited her passion for performance even further. With the knowledge and experience that she gains at Ithaca College, she hopes to take skills to the next level by enrolling in graduate school for voice. However, her newfound interest in vocal pedagogy and the anatomical factors of singing led her to also studying speech pathology and considering a career in this field. When she isn’t studying music, she enjoys the outdoors and hiking at the local waterfalls. She also enjoys reading, going out with friends, and painting.
