Biography

Sophia Altamirano

Sophia Altamirano is a soprano from Chicago, IL and a recent graduate at DePaul University where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance. Sophia is a versatile singer who specializes in opera, but has a background in broadway, contemporary, and jazz. Most recently she is made her debut as Nella in Gianni Schicchi with DePaul University, but other opera and musical productions include: Cinderella (Into the Woods), Cis (Albert Herring), Lay Sister (Suor Angelica), Ensemble in Cosi Fan Tutte and Orfeo ed Euridice. Sophia made her professional opera debut with the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company where she performed the cover role of Zorah in their production of Ruddigore. Additionally, she has performed for places such as the Joffery Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker at Auditorium Theatre, University Club, Christkindlmarket, Fortnightly Club of Chicago, Harold Washington Library, and the Palmer House-Hilton. As of late, she has worked with Grammy award winning composer, Libby Larsen. Notably, other musical endeavors include an 8 year proficiency in piano and learning the guitar. Besides performing, Sophia can be seen running her handmade jewelry business selling her products around the Chicagoland area, as well as doing makeup, journaling, baking, and decorating her room.
