Sophia Formella, soprano, is a Peruvian-American artist recognized for her dynamic stage presence and expressive vocalism. She most recently performed the title role in Song of the Nightingale with Cedar Rapids Opera, where she also appeared as Noémie in Massenet's Cendrillon as a Smith Young Artist.

Sophia is currently covering the roles of Despina (Così fan tutte) and Manuelita (Pepito) with The Dallas Opera, where she regularly performs at the Winspear Opera House. Her appearances there include productions of Roméo et Juliette, Tosca, and La Bohème.

Her previous roles include the title role in Viardot’s Cendrillon with Opera Arlington and Nightingale Opera Theatre, as well as the title role of Alice in the world premiere of ALICE: An Operatic Wonderland by Amy Scurria with Red River Lyric Opera.

In addition to her performance career, Sophia is a dedicated arts educator, currently serving as a Teaching Artist with the Metropolitan Opera Education Department. She holds a Master of Music in Opera Performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Vocal Performance from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
