Korean soprano Sua Lee, known for her bright and beautiful timbre, is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at the New England Conservatory under the guidance of Michael Meraw. Her studies focus on operatic repertoire, stylistic interpretation, and stagecraft, with an emphasis on refining vocal production across multiple languages and styles. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Yonsei University, where she built a solid foundation in vocal technique, diction, and art song interpretation.
At NEC, Lee has performed leading and supporting operatic roles, including Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Valletto in L’incoronazione di Poppea. She also appeared in Rigoletto, further broadening her stage experience. Lee has participated in numerous art song recitals, deepening her interpretive range and connecting with diverse musical traditions. In Korea, she presented two solo recitals in collaboration with the Kumho Cultural Foundation and achieved top prizes in various national competitions, including multiple first-place awards. These experiences have strengthened her artistry, recital programming skills, and audience engagement.
Her professional development includes a masterclass with soprano Heidi Stober, intensive coaching from JJ Penna and Robert Tweten, and extensive work with coaches Brian Zeger, Tanya Blaich, Jiyung Lee, Erica Guo, Brett Hodgdon, and Timothy Steele. These collaborations have enriched her interpretative depth, stylistic versatility, and collaborative artistry. Lee’s repertoire spans opera, oratorio, and art song literature in Italian, German, French, and English, as well as works by Korean composers.
