Eric Botto, praised for his “warm-voiced” tenor (Stage and Cinema), is an Italian-American tenor known for his vocal and dramatic versatility across an expansive range of repertoire. He has earned acclaim for his compelling stage presence and technical polish, performing with esteemed companies including Chautauqua Opera, Indianapolis Opera, Central City Opera, Sarasota Opera, Pacific Opera Project, Opera Southwest, and others. Kicking off the 2025-26 season Eric makes his role debut as Faust with Village Opera in New York, followed by his debut with Wichita Grand Opera as Tony in their production of West Side Story. This November Eric is slated to return to the role of Rodolfo in a concert performance of La bohème with the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra in Massachusetts.
The 2024–25 season marked a significant chapter in Eric’s career, with a series of exciting debuts and highly anticipated returns. He joined Opera Southwest as Federico in Carlo Coccia’s Matilde and appeared with Pacific Opera Project as Il Conte di Belprato in Antonio Cagnoni’s Don Bucefalo. He debuted with Opera In The Heights to portray Lamplighter in Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince, joined Sarasota Opera as Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro, and made his debut with Indianapolis Opera as Tony in a new production of West Side Story. Closing out the season, Eric remounted the role of Rodolfo in La bohème with Chautauqua Opera. He also participated in the 2025 workshop of Lincoln in the Bardo, the newest opera by Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek, commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera for their 2026 world premiere.
During the 2023–24 season, Eric’s performances showcased his adaptability and wide-ranging repertoire, debuting Gennaro in a concert production of Donizetti’s rarely-performed Lucrezia Borgia with New Amsterdam Opera, and as David in Pepito with Chautauqua Opera. He performed as Adrik in a semi-staged presentation of Carlos Cordero’s Un Cuento de Luces y Sombras with LOLA Austin, and as King Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors with Central City Opera. With First Coast Opera, Eric performed both Toby in The Medium and Satyavān in Gustav Holst’s Sāvitri in a double-bill performance. He also appeared with OPERA San Antonio as Benvolio in Roméo et Juliette, and with the CU New Opera Workshop as Agent Cordero in a semi-staged workshop of Tom Cipullo’s The Calling.
Eric’s additional repertoire includes a wide array of roles, such as the title role in Roméo et Juliette, Alfredo in La traviata, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Nadir in Les pêcheurs de perles, Pong in Turandot, Pirelli in Sweeney Todd, Henrik Egerman in A Little Night Music, and others. Eric has also performed notable excerpts in concert as Il Duca di Mantua in Rigoletto, Don José in Carmen, Werther, Des Grieux in both Massenet’s Manon and Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Candide, and Jean Valjean in Les Miserables.
Eric has been recognized in numerous vocal competitions, earning first prize in both the Arizona and Birmingham chapters of the Dorothy Lincoln-Smith Voice Awards, second prize in the Lyra New York International Vocal Competition, and a Career Advancement Award from the Pikes Peak Opera League. He has also been a finalist in the prestigious Lotte Lenya Competition, hosted by the Kurt Weill Foundation. Eric holds an Artist Diploma from the University of Colorado Boulder and earned degrees from Colorado State University and the University of Mobile.
