Biography

Tori Franklin

Tori Franklin is an American lyric soprano from East Tennessee. Originally pursuing a path in choral music, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Brevard College, where she studied voice with Dr. Kathryn Gresham. She went on to complete her Master of Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Tennessee under the guidance of Lorraine DiSimone.

While at UT, Mrs. Franklin performed roles including Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro), Ramiro (La finta giardiniera), and the title role in Bizet’s Carmen. She also appeared with Knoxville Opera Studio as Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor and sang in the choruses of Turandot, Aida, and Cavalleria rusticana.

As a Young Artist with the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center, she performed Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus and covered the title role in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah. During her time in New York City, she had the privilege of studying with Elizabeth Bishop.

From 2020-2022, Mrs. Franklin appeared as an Apprentice and Resident Artist with Sarasota Opera, where she performed in public concerts, sang Second Woman and covered First Witch in Dido and Aeneas, and performed La Duchesse du Crakentorpe in La fille du régiment. She has also appeared with Marble City Opera as Frankie in the world premiere of Royal Flush, Mrs. Hayes in Susannah, and as cover for the title role.

After returning home to East Tennessee, Mrs. Franklin performed Alice Ford in Falstaff with Knoxville Opera and appeared as Nella in Gianni Schicchi with Opera Roanoke. She looks forward to rejoining Knoxville Opera in the 2025–26 season as Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia and again as Nella in Gianni Schicchi. In her most recent concert Mrs. Franklin can be seen as a solist in Knoxville Opera's Opera's Greatest Hits, which was broadcast on East Tennessee PBS, Second Fairy in Mendelssohn's Midsummer's Night Dream with Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, as well as the soprano soloist in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with Oak Ridge Civic Music Association.
