A passionate and versatile soprano, I bring artistry and discipline to roles from Mozart to verismo. Highlights include Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), and Cendrillon, performed with Chicago Summer Opera, Miami Music Festival, and university productions. Now in my DMA studies at the University of Texas at Austin, I am eager to seize every opportunity to refine my voice, expand my artistry, and connect with audiences on a deeper level.

Biography

xijin chen

Xijin Chen is a soprano currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in OperaPerformance at the Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin, where shestudies with Leah Crocetto. She is the recipient of the Butler School of MusicScholarship Award for the 2024–25 academic year.

In the summer of 2024, Xijin performed the role of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni withChicago Summer Opera. Her recent roles at UT Austin include the title role in Cendrillon and the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro.

She earned her Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music,where she studied with Carole Haber and was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship. Duringher time there, she performed the role of Giunone in La Calisto and appeared in scenesas Juliette (Roméo et Juliette), Suzel (L’amico Fritz), Norina (Don Pasquale), andNannetta (Falstaff).

Xijin was awarded the Encouragement Award at the 2024 Laffont Competition (FloridaDistrict). With a deep commitment to both performance and study, she continues tocultivate her artistry and contribute to the operatic stage.
