Mezzo-soprano Maria Molter, a Michigan native now based in Chicago, is passionate about storytelling through opera and song. She recently appeared with Bellissima Opera Company of Chicago as Lelio in Pauline Viardot’s Le Dernier Sorcier and as Oberon in an abridged production of Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Previous opera credits include Mrs. Grose in The Turn of the Screw and the Old Baroness in Vanessa (Lyric Theatre @ Illinois), La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica and a Bridesmaid in Trial by Jury (Western Michigan University). She has also covered Cherubino and Countessa in Le Nozze di Figaro (Lyric Theatre @ Illinois). In concert, Maria has performed Handel’s Messiah, Lyric Under the Stars, the Spanish Song Festival in Madrid, and Viva España and Broadway in Love with the American Institute of Musical Studies. She has also premiered new sacred works with the Deus Ex Musica Project.
Maria holds a Master of Music from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Music from Western Michigan University. She studies with Emily Birsan.
