Christina Russo is Long Island-based mezzo-soprano whose journey has allowed her the joy of exploring the classical crossover sphere. In 2025, Christina made her company debut as La Ciesca in Opera Roanoke’s production of Gianni Schicchi, as well as her local musical theater debut in Guys and Dolls as Sarah Brown.
In previous seasons, she has performed with the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center as the Baker’s Wife in Sondheim’s much-loved Into the Woods, Aldonza in the classic Golden Age musical Man of La Mancha, and included as featured ensemble in concert with Patti LuPone. With a love for the operatic traditions of bel canto singing and the textual immediacy of American musical theater, she enjoys exploring American operatic repertoire and recently performed a concert of primarily American classical music. Christina has a wide variety of operatic roles in her arsenal, from the youthful and lovesick Cherubino to the vivacious and smoldering Carmen.
Christina is also an active singer and previous board member for the eVoco Voice Collective, an American Prize-winning choral ensemble on Long Island. Often featured as a soloist, she most recently was the primary alto soloist in Gregory Spears’ The Tower and the Garden, and featured on multiple movements in a semi-staged performance of the contemporary American oratorio Considering Matthew Shepard by Craig Hella Johnson.
Christina has a dual passion for performing and teaching, and runs a thriving voice studio on Long Island, teaching classical and musical theatre styles to clients of all ages. She holds a bachelor's degree in voice performance from Hofstra University, a master’s degree in opera performance from Binghamton University, and a graduate certificate in vocology from Lamar University. She has received awards from the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the Metropolitan Opera National Council. She is currently on faculty at Five Towns College.
