Mezzo-soprano Fengzhen Liu is pursuing the DMA in Vocal Performance at Michigan State University. Performance highlights include Bradamante in Handel’s Alcina and Mae in The Grapes of Wrath. Opera-scene work features Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and “Pirate Jenny” in The Threepenny Opera. Prior to her bel canto focus, Liu appeared in Chinese works as Sister Jiang (title role) and the female lead“jialing Tong" in To Youth.
Her repertoire interests center on Baroque, Mozart, and French literature, complemented by English-language roles such as Barber’s Erika aria “Must the Winter Come So Soon?”. Additional training includes Chicago Summer Opera (Bradamante, Alcina) and the Peking University Opera Young Artist Training Program (Sister Jiang). Beyond Western opera, Liu brings expertise in Chinese regional folk singing and traditional opera styles (Cantonese/Yueju, Jingju, Huagu Opera, Henan Bangzi). Current goals include leading-role assignments and expanding role-ready packages with updated recordings.
