Biography

Karla Clemens

A San Antonio native, Karla Clemens holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Texas A&M University–Kingsville (TAMUK). With TAMUK’s Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop, she has performed a variety of roles, including Ms. Dara in An Embarrassing Position by Dan Shore, Croute-au-Pot in Offenbach’s Mesdames de la Halle, Princess Ida in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Princess Ida, and the Third Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

Ms. Clemens is a two-time winner of the TAMUK School of Music Concerto Competition (2022, 2024), performing “O wär ich schon mit dir vereint” from Beethoven’s Fidelio and “Près des remparts de Séville” from Bizet’s Carmen. In 2024, she won first place in the South Texas Chapter NATS in the 4th–5th Year Classical Treble division and received the Alice Dutcher Thornton Award, recognizing outstanding career potential among senior and graduate singers. Later that year, she earned third place in the Advanced American Negro Spirituals category at the TEXOMA NATS Student Auditions and, in the following summer, she advanced as a semi-finalist in the National Student Auditions in Philadelphia.

She continued her artistic development as a participant in the 2024 Taos Opera Institute summer program in New Mexico and later attended the OPERA San Antonio – Classical Music Institute as a Studio Artist earlier this summer. Ms. Clemens will also be performing with the chorus in the upcoming production of The Magic Flute with OPERA San Antonio.
