Founded in 1986 by Stephen Crout, Washington Concert Opera has shaped the way concert opera is presented in the D.C. area. Washington Concert Opera produces high quality, seldom performed masterpieces of the operatic repertoire in concert form at the company’s artistic home, Lisner Auditorium of George Washington University.
As the first opera of Verdi’s middle period, Luisa Miller shows Verdi’s refinement of style on his way to operatic perfection. This sumptuously beautiful romantic drama tells the story of “Luisa,” the sweet peasant girl who falls in love with “Rodolfo”, son of a ruthless nobleman. Striking arias (including Rodolfo’s famous “Quando le sere al placido”), duets and ensembles reveal the passion of the characters on their journey towards a tragic end. Experience the emotion and high Italian drama of Verdi’s Luisa Miller with WCO’s superstar cast.
