Charlie is native to Greenville, South Carolina, and is pursuing a B.M. in Vocal Performance and Music Theory at Furman University under the study of his teacher, Dr. Grant Knox, and coach, Hailey Anthum Hunter. He is honored to be a Presidential Music Scholar at Furman and is an active performer on- and off-campus as a member of the Furman Choral department, including as a member of the barbershop quartet The Mosquitoes and as President of the flagship choir, Furman Singers.
Charlie is a frequent member of the Sarah Reese Lyric Theatre, having performed as Melchior in Amahl and the Night Visitors and David in A Hand of Bridge in the prior season, while also performing in Orpheus in the Underworld and The Pirates of Penzance with the company in prior seasons. He has performed and covered baritone solos in masterworks with the Furman Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Choir, including “For Behold…The People That Walked in Darkness” in Handel’s Messiah, as well as the baritone solos in Aaron Copland’s The Promise of Living and John Ireland’s Greater Love Hath No Man.
This past summer, Charlie attended the Seagle Festival in Schroon Lake, NY, where he performed in all of the mainstage shows, including Carmen, Pirates of Penzance, Mayo Buckner, and Anything Goes. At the same time, Charlie was performing the roles of Monkey King, Crocodile, and Lady Tiger in Kamala Sankaram’s Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers, which toured the North Country of the Adirondacks for a total of eight performances.
Charlie is actively involved in his life at school, currently serving as a Recording Engineer and Teaching Assistant in Music Theory on campus. In his free time, Charlie volunteers at church on the production and worship teams, reads, plays his viola, and plays with his dog, Eleanor Rigby. SDG.
